Today RIM has announced its earnings for Q3. They include a five percent drop in revenue to $2.7 billion and an adjusted net loss of $114 million. GAAP net income was $14 million ($9 million when the loss from discontinued operations is factored in), and a cash increase of about $600 million to $2.9 billion. RIM says they have shipped 6.9 million smartphones and 225,000 PlayBooks during Q3, however this is only shipped, not actual sales, so that number is likely to be even bleaker. Heins confirmed that RIM's global subscriber base is now at 79 million globally, a slight decline from Q2 but still an increase year-over-year. RIM has also announced that its CIO, Robin Bienfait will retire, although RIM says she will still be advise to enable a "smooth launch and seamless transition."
