The highly-anticipated simulation racing video game Gran Turismo 6 is now available on Sony's PlayStation 3 console and to mark the 15th birthday of the series, Kazunori Yamauchi, Producer of Gran Turismo and the President of Polyphony Digital Inc. teamed with Mercedes-Benz to look into the future of sports cars. While the game does feature the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 from 2011, they wanted to see what they could create especially for the game and how far they could take it. "Vision Gran Turismo" gave Mercedes the chance to develop concept models that function just like a real car to be placed into Gran Turismo 6. The team at Mercedes-Benz Advanced Design Studios in Sindelfingen, Carlsbad and Como, Italy (interior design) created the stunning and futuristic Mercedes-Benz AMG Vision Gran Turismo featuring a variable LED radiator grille that has different lighting patterns, a sleek motor racing body design, two seats, and authentic engine sounds from the racetrack. According to Mercedes the modern design language combines classic design elements from the history of motor racing.
The team of designers worked just like they would for a regular vehicle design process, but did it in a short time due to an amazing amount of passion. You can see the AMG Vision Gran Turismo in the video below which shows off the car as well as the detailed process of developing it.
