BT is joining other providers such as Sky and TalkTalk to block adult content by default after a push by the UK government. A new tool named "BT Parental Controls" blocks adult content at the router level. New BT users will have the option to turn off filters when setting up their connection and existing customers will be notified of the new controls in 2014. Existing users will have the option to switch the filters on with three preset levels. While parental controls have been around for a long time and are clearly a good idea in some situations, should they be enabled by default? It seems far too much like a nanny state move to us.
