Sony has announced that they'll be expanding their Amazing Spider-Man franchise with a Venom movie and Sinister Six movie. Sony has formed a brain trust which includes director Mark Webb, producers Avi Arad and Matt Tomach, as well as Alex Kurtzman, Jeff Pinkner, Ed Solomon, Drew Goddard and Roberto Orci that will develop a story over several films. Kurtzman, Orci and Solomon will write the Venom movie, with Kurtzman directing, and Goddard will write and could direct Sinister Six.
Doug Belgard, Columbia Pictures president said,
The Spider-Man film franchise is one of our studio’s greatest assets. We are thrilled with the creative team we have assembled to delve more deeply into the world that Marc, Avi and Matt have begun to explore in The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2. We believe that Marc, Alex, and Drew have uniquely exciting visions for how to expand the Spider-Man universe in each of these upcoming films.
It really is no surprise that Sony wants to expand its Spider-Man movie universe as to date it has taken over $3.2 billion worldwide.
