HP was last in the smartphone game when they purchased Palm back in 2010 for $1.2 billion. In 2011 HP introduced a series of webOS devices under the HP brand. To put it simply things didn't go so well and on August 18 2011, HP announced that it would discontinue production of all webOS devices, including smartphones and tablets. Fast forward to today and sources have told The Information that HP intends to return to the smartphone market. The new smartphones will apparently be six and seven-inches, be released in emerging markets such as India, the Philippines, and China, and will be sold off contract for between $200 and $250.
No information about exact release dates or what OS the devices will run, but it's highly likely that HP will go with Android this time considering its past history.
