Hoping that some day a Gears of War game would come to PlayStation? Well those chances just got extremely slimmer as Microsoft has just announced they've acquired the franchise from Epic Games. On Xbox Wire Microsoft confirmed that it now has all rights to "all existing and future games, entertainment experiences and merchandise." They also announced that Black Tusk Studios based in Vancouver will take over development of the Gears of War franchise with Rod Fergusson, former Director of Production of the series at Epic Games joining Black Tusk.
Corporate Vice President of Microsoft Studios says that they acquired the franchise as it has a "very strong, passionate and valued fan base on Xbox" and "by acquiring this franchise, Microsoft Studios will continue to offer them more of their favorite games and entertainment experiences from the “Gears of War” universe." This really sounds like they are potentially protecting the franchise from going to any other platforms, which is understandable due to its popularity.
Microsoft says that more news about the series will be announced later this year.
