I use Foursquare a lot, and what I find most is the tips feature that allows users to leave suggestions at said location. Now Facebook is going in direct competition with the company with it's very own tips for Places. Facebook has today introduced "Place Tips" which when enabled give you a pop up of relevant details about the location you checked into as well as tips people have left, such as a suggested meal at a restaurant. If a place has a "tip" you'll see a pop up named tip. You'll also get photos from your friends and basic information about the business such as opening hours and friends posts about.
For those worried about privacy, Place tips is opt-out so you'll have to turn it off if you don't want to see it or for it to use any of the things you've posted.
Place Tips will see a slow rollout and first, Facebook is currently testing it in parts of New York.
