Today Pebble announced it's new colour smartwatch the Pebble Time. It's currently up for backing on Kickstarter and as of waiting this post it's already raised over $4 million. Even with the upcoming Apple Watch it's not really a surprise that the Pebble Time has done so well, back in 2012 the original Pebble became one of the largest Kickstarter campaigns ever. Early backers will get the Pebble Time for $159, that's a $40 discount off of what it will cost at retail later this year. This means Pebble only needed 3,145 backers to hit its goal of $500,000, but of course they've flew past that already.
About the Pebble Time
The Pebble Time features a new colour e-paper display and a microphone for responding to notifications. It features the same 7 days of battery life, water resistance and band customisability. It's also compatible with all 6,500+ existing Pebble apps and watchfaces. Three colours will be exclusively available on Kickstarter, plus special engraving for original Kickstarter backers.
The Pebble Time is 20% thinner than the original Pebble, just 9.5mm. It has been designed to be ergonimic and curved to fit the wrists. The lens is crafted from scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass with a bezel made of stainless steel.
Pebble is also changing up how notifications work. Instead of being in separate apps you'll get a screen that displays then order or old to new. For more information on the Pebble Time head over here.
