Facebook for iOS goes native, drops HTML5, becomes much faster

Facebook today is rolling out version 5.0 of its app for iOS and this time it’s native. Facebook for iOS 5.0 was built from the ground up using Apple’s iOS SDK instead of using HTML5. Thanks to this it has massive speed improvements, which facebook says is up to 2x faster.

While using the app scrolling through the news feed is so much quicker, it feels super smooth. A new banner at the top of the app lets you tap to see more stories so you don’t need to refresh to see the latest updates. Photos can also now open fast and close with one swipe downwards, and you also get instant access to your push notifications.

What do you think of the update? Let us know in the comments.
