Microsoft will have new CEO in early 2014

Current Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has about nine months left as at Microsoft and both speculation and rumours have circulated around who will replace him. Many have said it could be Nokia’s CEO Stephen Elop or Ford’s Alan Mullaly (who denied an early leave from Ford) but we are still no closer to knowing. Today Microsoft‘s board chair John W. Thompson said:

I expect we’ll complete our work in the early part of 2014.

Thompson and the rest of the board have the list down from “over 100 possible candidates” to a “group of about 20″ and that they’ve done deeper research and investigation with the full Board.

No word on who is in that list but we would expect current Microsoft employees and the two mentioned above to be.
