Why the LG G3 should be your next Android smartphone

By Stephen Robinson @xstex · On 28 July, 2014

Big screen Android devices are all the rage right now, but how does the new G3 from LG stack up to the rest of them? Lets find out.

The LG G3 features a 5.5 inch display that has a pixel density of 538ppi and is four times the resolution of HD, LG calls this ‘Quad HD’. It’s a result of years of innovation in display technology, and having played with the device myself I can honestly say it’s by far the best looking smartphone display on the market today by a long shot. The vibrant colours are simply stunning and the detail the display can show is a truly breathtaking; it really has to be seen in person to fully appreciate it.

In terms of cameras the device has a 13 megapixel rear camera, capable of shooting in 4K resolution, that features a unique Laser Auto Focus allowing you to shoot stunning and sharp images in the fraction of the time other smartphones would be able to. This is a massive bonus if you’re trying to catch something important in a photograph that you would otherwise miss. You also get the usual useful camera features such as digital image stabilisation and a HDR mode. On the front is a 2.1 megapixel camera with larger image sensors than other smartphones, so you’ll be able to capture the best looking selfies out of all your friends.

Some neat software features in the G3 include the Smart Notice personal assistant, a keyboard that learns from your typing, and Smart Security, which allows you to wipe your data remotely or hide it from other people just in case you lose it.

On the spec side of things the LG G3 features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 8974-AC system chip with a Quad core, 2500 MHz, Krait 400 processor, Adreno 330 graphics processor, and 3GB of RAM. All this adds up to a super fast and snappy smartphone that can handle everything you throw at. From my week with the device I didn’t see any sort of slow down that has been seen on many other Android devices.

On board you get 32GB of storage which is expandable via microSD, microSDHC, or microSDXC up to 128 GB. The battery is 3000mAh so the G3 will keep going for about 19 hours on talktime.

The LG G3 really stands head and shoulders above other Android smartphones on the market. With impressive specs, a lovely flat UI, a clever camera, and an insanely beautiful display you really can’t go wrong.
