Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger has today announced that Rian Johnson, director or Looper, is set to direct Star Wars Episode VIII. The film, which continues the saga after the events of the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens, is due for release on May 26, 2017, making it forty years and one day after the release of A New Hope in 1977. Johnson has also directed Brick and The Brothers Bloon, and episodes of Breaking Bad including “Ozymandias”, one the highest rated episodes of the show. Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman, producer of Looper, Don Jon, Brick, and The Brothers Bloom, are set to produce.
