Everything you need to know about Microsoft’s Lumia 640 & 640 XL

Nokia’s Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone have been great devices, and now that Microsoft owns the company future models are branded under Microsoft. The latest are the Microsoft Lumia 640 and 640 XL. As expected the build quality of both 640 models is excellent, and the glossy rear is quite attractive if you’re into fun coloured devices.

The Lumia 640 has a display of 5-inches while the 640 XL’s is 5-inches. Which one is best is of course which you’re most comfortable with as the resolution (1280×720) is exactly the same on both devices, although you do get a higher PPI on the former at 294, versus the XL which has a PPI of 259. The display offers deep black levels and rich colours, a pretty fantastic screen for a low cost smartphone. Both versions feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 system chip, a quad core 1200 MHz processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of built-in storage (expandable to 128 GB). Both are also 4G capable.

In terms of cameras the Lumia 640 features an 8 megapixel shooter on the back with 1080p video recording and a 0.9 megapixel on the front, while the Lumia 640 XL features a 13 megapixel camera on the back with 1080p recording and a 5 megapixel camera on the front.

The Lumia 640 and 640 XL will ship with Windows Phone 8.1 but will be given free updates to Windows 10 later this year. Additionally Microsoft is offering a one-year free subscription to Office 365 with 1TB of OneDrive cloud storage when you buy either models, a pretty good deal if you ask me.
